Atlas Orthogonal Chiropractic Adjustment

At Upper Cervical Wellness Center, Dr. Rion Peddy utilizes the Atlas Orthogonal technique to gently correct the misalignments in our cervical spines, more specifically, our atlas and axis (C1 and C2). If one of the upper two bones becomes misaligned, two things happen. First, it irritates or interferes with the brain stem and reduces brain-to-body communication. Wherever those messages were intended to go, whether it's your foot, kidney, pancreas, heart, lungs, eyes or ears, it is going to malfunction due to neurovascular insult. Secondly consider the upper spine a kinetic chain, connected from the head to toe. If either of the top two bones becomes misaligned the rest of the body must compensate or adapt, resulting in total "body imbalance." In the end your health and physical body will be compromised. This is called an Atlas Subluxation.

This is where the Atlas Orthogonal instrument, and Dr. Peddy, come in. This instrument was designed to deliver a very precise adjustment, via percussion, to the vertebrae. Dr. Peddy will place the stylus, based on your specific misalignment, in the appropriate spot to correct your subluxation. This is a gentle, effective treatment that does not employ any physical thrusts. As non-invasive and subtle as the treatment may seem, the Atlas Orthogonal adjustment can help your body function properly and pain free, resolving many health conditions!

Digital X-Rays

At Upper Cervical Wellness Center we utilize state of the art x-ray capabilities. Digital radiology may represent the greatest technological advancement in medical imaging over the last decade. The use of radiographic films in x-ray imaging may become obsolete in a few years. An appropriate analogy that is easy to understand is the replacement of typical film cameras with digital cameras. Images can be immediately acquired, deleted, modified, and subsequently sent to a network of computers.

The benefits from digital radiology are enormous. The doctor can view the requested image on a desktop or a personal computer and often report in just a few seconds after the images was taken. In addition, the patient can have the x ray images on a compact disk to take to another physician or hospital.

The use of digital images can result in lower radiation dose than the use of film-screen images, with better image quality. Conventional film-screen radiation exposure techniques can produce less than acceptable diagnostic quality, and could be underexposed or overexposed.

We are excited to offer our patients this cutting edge diagnostic tool!

Spinal Decompression

Back pain due to a herniated or bulging disc can be debilitating, and in the past surgery was the answer. Today we have highly successful, advanced technology that allows us to relieve this pain without surgery. At Upper Cervical Wellness Center we use a system that combines a machine with an exceptionally precise computer program for a treatment called spinal decompression.

Using this computer technology and the decompression machine we are able to create a custom treatment plan that decompresses the spine and pulls the herniated or bulging material back into the disc. It gently stretches and relaxes the spine in rotation, which, over time, separates the vertebrae. This creates a vacuum-like effect that pulls the soft bulging disc material back into the disc. This can not only clear up back pain, but also any pain caused by the pressure put on the nerves. For example, patients who have a herniated disc in the lower back may have shooting sciatic pain down their legs. Relieving the herniated disc will cause that pain to vanish.

Treatment time and frequency will depend on each patient’s unique condition; however, each spinal decompression treatment is usually about twenty minutes. Patients generally have treatment a few times a week, and are typically finished with treatment within eight weeks.

If you are living in pain from a herniated or bulging disc, we will work with you to find a spinal decompression treatment plan that corresponds with your body. Instead of turning to dangerous pain medications that just cover up the problem, ask us if spinal decompression can help you.

Class IV Laser Therapy

At Upper Cervical Wellness Center we often utilize a class 4 laser in our treatments. Our laser is a therapeutic modality that can have significant healing benefits as it helps reduce pain and inflammation and supports healing in soft tissue, including muscles and ligaments.

Laser therapy reduces pain and inflammation by increasing oxygenation of tissue allowing injured cells to absorb photons of light. Healing is accelerated without the side effects of pharmaceutical drugs or the upheaval and down time of surgery. The laser treatments at Upper Cervical Wellness Center are custom designed, depending on the patient's condition.

Laser therapy can be used for acute injuries, such as strains and sprains, repetitive use injuries like carpal tunnel syndrome, chronic issues such as headaches, joint pain and arthritis, and traumas like injuries sustained in a fall or car accident. We are pleased to offer our patients the benefit of laser therapy in our office.

Lymphatic Drainage Therapy

The body is designed to heal itself naturally and a healthy lymph system is integral to that process. Lymphatic Drainage Therapy is a gentle and deeply relaxing form of bodywork developed by Dr. Bruno Chikly, a French osteopathic physician. Practitioners are taught to feel the lymphatic rhythm and assess (map) both its direction and quality of flow throughout the body. LDT techniques help improve flow in areas, both superficial and deep, where it is congested. When the body does not drain or cleanse itself properly, it is more prone to disease. In addition, the lymph system is a key part of the body’s immune response so LDT directly benefits its defenses as well. When the lymph system is activated, there are up to 30% more lymphocytes in circulation.

Lymphatic drainage massage is a gentle, rhythmic massage technique that aims to stimulate the lymphatic system. The lymphatic system plays a crucial role in immune function and the removal of waste and toxins from the body.

During the massage, the therapist uses specific hand movements and light pressure to encourage the movement of lymph fluid through the lymphatic vessels. This helps to remove excess fluid, reduce swelling, and promote detoxification.

Some potential benefits of lymphatic drainage massage include:

  • Reduced swelling and edema: By promoting the movement of excess fluid, lymphatic drainage massage can help to reduce swelling, especially in areas affected by injury or surgery.

  • Enhanced immune function: The lymphatic system is key to immune function, and by stimulating its activity, this massage technique can help boost the body's natural defense mechanisms.

  • Detoxification: Lymphatic drainage massage aids in the removal of metabolic waste and toxins from the body, supporting overall detoxification processes.

  • Improved skin health: By promoting lymphatic circulation, this massage technique can help nourish the skin cells, improve complexion, and promote a healthy glow.

  • Relaxation and stress relief: Along with its physical benefits, lymphatic drainage massage can be deeply relaxing and provide relief from stress and tension.

Zero Balancing

Bones and ligaments hold tension just like soft tissues. Bones are not dry, dead, inflexible structures. They are vibrant, pliable and perform so many vital functions that give us life, i.e. the creation of red and white blood cells, in addition to providing structure and protection for vital organs. Zero Balancing practitioners apply direct acupressure to bones as well as gentle tractions to joints to help improve alignment and energy flow at the skeletal level. Developed by Dr. Fritz Smith, ZB has its roots in chiropractic medicine, osteopathy and acupuncture. Sessions leave clients feeling more grounded, relaxed, organized and unified at a deep level. Clients also report feeling more energetic, healthier overall and less pain. ZB can help resolve chronic myoskeletal issues. Because ZB works so deeply in the body, it promotes healing from the inside out and as such benefits more superficial tissues like tendons, muscles and fascia. The effects of ZB also last longer than traditional massage therapy and take longer for the body to integrate.
